iPhone XR Becomes Best-Selling Smartphone in Q3 2019


Counterpoint market research company put the iPhone XR as the best-selling smartphone globally in the third quarter (Q3) 2019. Apple’s smartphone got a 3 percent market share in that period.

Reported by GSM Arena, Friday (12/27/2019), the dominance of the iPhone XR did not only occur in Q3 2019. Smartphones announced in September 2018 were also said to be still holding the best sales titles in each quarter globally since Q4 2018.

iPhone XR price adjustments in China and several other markets, making demand remain strong.

While the iPhone XR leads in Q3 2019, the Galaxy A10 is in second place with a 2.6 percent market share. Another top-five ranking is occupied by Galaxy A50, Oppo A9, and iPhone 11.

Then ranked six to 10 in a row occupied by Oppo A5s, Galaxy A20, Oppo A5, Redmi 7A, and Huawei P30.

Furthermore, analysts of financial services company, JP Morgan, predicts Apple will release four iPhone models with 5G support in the second half of 2020. The four will be divided into two groups, bigger and smaller screens. 

Quoted from  Apple Insider, two models of the iPhone 12 will have 3D  sensing capabilities on the back and support a faster 5G connection based on mmWave.

In his notes to investors, JP Morgan believes Apple will increase the number of smartphone shipments compared to the previous three iPhones.

Apple is predicted to bring the iPhone 12 with a 5.4-inch screen, 6.7 inches, and two variants with 6.1 inches. Two of them will be Pro variants. 

Models 6.1 and 6.7 inches will be the Pro variants with the highest specifications. Its superior features include three rear cameras and ” World-facing 3D sensing“.

Meanwhile, two other models with screens measuring 5.4 and 6.1 inches have two rear cameras, and without 3D sensing features.

According to JP Morgan, the four smartphones will drive an acceleration in the iPhone replacement cycle. In addition, Apple is also said to be releasing a second-generation iPhone SE with a 4.7 inch OLED screen in the first semester of 2020.
